Spring replacement
Heard the bang? Door won't open?
If your garage door won't open and it's very heavy to lift by hand, it's almost always the torsion spring. Same-day spring replacement across the West Valley. Both springs, correctly sized, balanced and tested before we leave.

What happens on a spring call
The spring carries the weight of the door. When it breaks, the door becomes deadweight, the opener strains, and the door is unsafe to lift by hand. We replace the springs with the correct size for your door's weight, replace worn cables at the same time when needed, then balance the door and test the safety reverse.
Torsion or extension?
Most West Valley homes have torsion springs: one or two springs on a bar above the door. Older or lighter doors sometimes use extension springs, which run along the tracks on each side. Both wear out the same way, one cycle at a time, and both are dangerous to work on without the right tools. Tell Eric which kind you have if you know, and send a photo if you don't.
Why springs break here
A standard spring is rated for roughly 10,000 cycles, and one open-and-close is one cycle. A family that uses the garage as the front door can burn through that in a few years. Heat and dry air speed up the wear. If one spring on a two-spring door has gone, the other is usually close behind, which is why we replace them as a pair.
Warranty
Spring warranties vary by spring type (standard, high-cycle, or custom heavy-use) and are quoted with the spring. Labor on spring work carries the standard 90 days on labor for repairs.
Eric stocks three grades: standard springs, high-cycle springs for a door that gets opened many times a day, and custom springs for heavy or oversized doors. High-cycle springs cost more up front and last several times longer, and the longer warranty comes with them.

Questions homeowners ask
How do I know the spring broke?
A loud bang from the garage, then a door that feels extremely heavy or won't lift more than a few inches. Look above the door: a torsion spring with a visible gap in the coil is broken.
Do you replace one spring or both?
Both, on a two-spring door. They were installed together and have the same wear, so replacing only the broken one means the second fails soon after.
Can I open the door with a broken spring?
Please don't. The spring does the lifting; without it the full weight is on the opener and on you. Leave the door down and call.
How long does spring replacement take?
Usually about an hour on site, and it's a same-day job during business hours.
